Life Coaching or Hypnotherapy...Which is best for you?
Quite often Clients are unsure whether they would benefit more from Hypnotherapy or Life Coaching, and while both give great results, there are some differences:
Hypnotherapy deals with issues from both the past and the present - Life Coaching deals with the here and now, and the future.
Hypnotherapy deals with letting go of the past and then moving forward - Life Coaching is all about getting results.
So, for example, if you’ve had a phobia for years, you would probably benefit more from Hypnotherapy (backed up with Thought Field Therapy) and if you’ve lost your job or are fed up with your lot, Life Coaching might be the best way to go for you.
Hypnotherapy is a very gentle way of eliciting changes with the therapist doing all the work - Life Coaching is a very dynamic and pro-active way of bringing about change, and the Client and Coach both contribute to the sessions. If required, the Coach will gently push the Client outside his/her comfort zone and in my experience this is where major shifts can very often be made.
Hypnotherapy is more of a short-term approach. I personally do not see Clients for any more than 6 sessions of Hypnotherapy. This is because I want clients to be independent and begin to find solutions for themselves. For this reason I always teach Clients Self-Hypnosis so that they have the tools to carry on with their changes at home. Life Coaching is usually more of a long-term approach and it’s not unusual to continue to see a client for months or even years.
And although both are very different in approach, in my experience they do work well together. Often a client will come for 1 or 2 sessions of Hypnotherapy to let go of the past, and then move onto Life Coaching to start getting results in their future.
